Working as an exercise professional is both rewarding and challenging. In this roundtable discussion participants will have the ability to share challenges, trends and opportunities that they are experiencing/observing within their areas of work. The goal of this discussion is to share ideas/resources with each other and to help inform areas where further support/education may be needed for CSEP members.

This will be a dynamic conversation facilitated by Brenda Adams with a special guest, Zach Weston, CSEP CEO.

About the speakers:

Brenda Adams

Brenda is a Ph.D. student at the University of Victoria where the focus of her research is developing an intervention that will help Exercise Professionals build their levels of resiliency so that they are better able to cope with the ever changes demands of this profession. She has dedicated the last 20 years of her career to helping Exercise Professionals thrive in their personal and professional lives. An Exercise Professional herself for more than 25 years, she has worked in almost every facet of this industry and understands the challenges that Exercise Professionals face. As a kinesiologist, Adult Educator and certified Life Coach, Brenda brings a truly unique set of skills, knowledge and experience to her workshops. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to teach for understanding. Her incredible teaching abilities were recognized when she was awarded the 2014 Educator of the Year Award through BC Recreation and Parks Association. She is also a sessional instructor at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC and works as a Project Manager in Primary Health Care.

 

Zach Weston

Zach is the Chief Executive Officer for the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP). As a business leader he has built entrepreneurial ventures in the MedTech and Health service sector, managed regional clinical programs within the Ontario Health system including impact to health system policy and provided governance as the VP of Strategic Partnerships on the Board of Directors with the Ontario Kinesiology Association. He has a wealth of experience as a clinician in all areas of the health system from the emergency department to outpatient and community rehabilitation focusing on chronic disease prevention and management, plus high performance athletics including training and preparing athletes for Olympic and Paralympic games.

Zach has been a proud certified CSEP member since 1995 and an Instructor-Examiner for both the CSEP-CPT and CSEP-CEP credentials.  He has been a faculty member at Wilfrid Laurier University for nearly 20 years and more recently at the University of Waterloo where combined he has contributed to numerous health research initiatives and taught Kinesiology, Business and Entrepreneurship courses.
